Hunting the Kraken: How the giant squid was found

Not all that long ago the first footage of a giant squid captured in its native habitat was released, you can watch it here. But what did it take to capture the images of the generally camera shy Architeuthis? You can bet there`s some a story and some very persistent researchers behind it.

Edith Widder, one of the marine biologists involve recounts some of it in a TED presentation.

From TED:

"Humankind has been looking for the giant squid (Architeuthis) since we first started taking pictures underwater. But the elusive deep-sea predator could never be caught on film. Oceanographer and inventor Edith Widder shares the key insight -- and the teamwork -- that helped to capture the squid on camera for the first time.
