Kitty leaps from communication tower, and lives!
This is one lucky kitty. This Siamese cat in Columbia may have used one of its nine lives after it jumped from a communications tower while being rescued. Lucky for this kitty he was caught by rescuers, so he`s ok, but wow did he ever take a leap of faith.

I agree, this is the most useless thing ever, unless you like being aggravated to no end. So this is what is does, you flip switches and as you do a little arm pops out and turns off the switches as you flip them. Hours of fun I say! Yup this truck hauling a trailer full of cows tips over. This video from eastern Russia shows a unique accident. Not exactly sure what caused this truck driver to lose control but the cows came out of it ok, bit a tumbling but they did`nt really even seem to mind, they all get up with this "what happened" look on their faces.

This is the big asteroid that passed by the Earth last week
This monster is Toutatis. Toutatis is 4.8 km long and came within 4.3 million miles of the Earth. That might sound far but considering thats 18 times the distance that the Moon is from the Earth, that`s close, celestially speaking. During it`s flyby NASA trained their Deep Space Network antenna at it and captured these radar images.

These two aviators are pretty lucky. As you can tell the engine fails on their ultralight aircraft and they are surrounded by forested hills. Luckily the pilot spots a road and they come in for a landing, but still end up in the forest, still very lucky.

Direct applications could be medical, as an artificial iris, or cosmetic, as an iris with tunable color, or it just could serve as a gimmick. The dollar sign is a reference to the many cartoons featuring people/figures with dollars in their eyes :)

First solo flight blues: plane crashes into SUV
This pilot was about to come in for a landing after his first solo flight when an errant SUV ruined his landing. This rural airport in Texas apparently does not mark it`s routes too well considering there are NO lights to warn traffic when it is safe to proceed or not, just the words STOP painted onto the asphalt.
BTW the personal shooting this video was the pilot`s wife.

The European Southern Observatory (ESO) has announced that our solar system's nearest neighbour, Alpha Centauri, has a planet roughly Earth sized orbiting one of it`s suns. For those of you unfamiliar with the Alpha Centauri system it`s only 4.3 light years away. That`s practically across the street celestially speaking.

Mars Curiosity descent
This frame by frame video by Bard Canning took 4 weeks to make.
His words:
"My version uses true motion-flow interpolation at 30fps," explained Canning in an email to io9. "To my knowledge, I am the first person in the world to use utilize this method for this footage." But he didn't stop there.
Using pan and scan techniques, he upgraded the footage to 50,000kbps 1080p, enhanced the colors and detail during the landing sequence, and included some sound effects.
